Dulce Vida (“sweet life”) is a 2007 DeFever 52 Euro raised pilothouse trawler that has been beautifully looked after by her second owners. She is moored in Channel Islands Harbor, CA (Oxnard/Ventura) – ideally positioned for a quick trip over to the island jewels of southern California –if you want to explore further, you can make a left turn to Mexico or a head right and go north up to Alaska. Arthur DeFever conceived an ideal couple’s trawler that is simple to manage and fun to go exploring with. Limited use and low hours on machinery make Dulce Vida a very desirable trawler to purchase.
This DeFever 52 Euro is set up with the popular two-stateroom, two-head floor plan. The saloon and galley are on the same level and the pilothouse is raised with excellent visibility. Outside living space is maximized too, with double walk around side decks, a spacious cockpit with swim platform and access to the flybridge and boat deck from the wheelhouse.
Dulce Vida’s interior is elegant with varnished teak bulkheads, teak and spruce soles, granite counters and excellent visibility through windows and port lights. There is wonderful natural light and air circulation.
The master stateroom is aft with an athwartships walk around island berth and ensuite head. Dulce Vida has the extra stairs from the saloon making the master accessible aft from the salon or forward down from the pilothouse stairs – a much more popular arrangement that also allows for better airflow through the boat and makes it easier to move around. The guest stateroom is forward with over / under berths.
Dulce Vida is set up for long distance coastal cruising powered by twin Caterpillar C-7’s, 454 HP diesel engines with 1,300 gallons of diesel fuel capacity. She is a smooth ride with trim tabs installed aft for higher speed performance and enjoys dry offshore travel with her high bow. Underway motion is soft due to her full keel underbody and anti-roll comfort provided by Naiad active fin stabilizers.
In harbor, she has great close quarter maneuverability with her twin engines (controlled from the flybridge or pilothouse) enhanced by her Sidepower electric bow thruster. For anchoring her ground tackle includes a Maxwell electric windlass with anchor and chain.
Access to the engine room is through the aft bulkhead in the master. She is air conditioned throughout the interior and has a Westerbeke 12.5kW generator. In addition to generator electricity, there are two 50-amp shore power connections, an Outback inverter, Mastervolt chargemaster battery charger and Link 10 battery level remote. Additional mechanical support systems include a built-in oil change system and Racor fuel transfer filter with pump. Safety features include all USCG requirements plus engine room fire suppression, life raft and EPIRB.
Important equipment and convenience features include; freshwater Vacuflush toilets, HRO watermaker, and Seaward hot water heater. The pilothouse and flybridge have Pompanette helm chairs and an efficient complement of nav/com with auto pilot, radar, depth, chart plotter, compass, VHF radio and much, much more.
Her serious offshore profile is made more practical with her walk around side decks giving you great access to fenders and dock lines. Her trawler pedigree includes a Portuguese bridge separating the pilothouse from the foredeck. On the boat deck, behind the Bimini covered fly bridge, there is a Steelhead crane for launching the Caribe RIB dinghy. The outside decks are covered on the sides of the salon and the aft deck cockpit area. Arriving by dinghy you can board onto the swim platform and get on deck through the transom door. Her varnished teak exterior trim embellishes her elegant yacht styling and was recently refreshed.
Her hull incorporates the molded in swim platform (quite wide with teak decking) for more waterline improving speed. This is an ideal trawler for a cruising couple who wants to entertain guests and enjoy a yacht that is easy to handle, operate and maintain
Her current (second owners) purchased her in Southern California and have wandered up to the Pacific Northwest and back. During their ownership tenure, they have kept up with all machinery and equipment maintenance inside and out, and made some nice improvements. Due to changing family circumstances, they find they no longer have the time to travel with her and so have listed her for sale at a very competitive price (roughly half of what a new DeFever 52 Euro would sell for).
Dulce Vida is an attractive trawler that is ready to go on more adventures this summer and beyond. She would be an ideal platform for extensive coastal cruising and could also serve nicely as a liveaboard.
