The six north American yacht broker associations partner with each other to manage the CPYB (Certified Professional Yacht Broker) program. The CAC (Certification Advisory Council) is the governing board for the CPYB and meets quarterly to review and discuss developments in the yacht brokerage community.

The 2022 annual CAC in-person meeting was hosted this November in Annapolis, MD. Jeff Merrill, CPYB representing the CYBA (California) was elected to be the CAC chairman for a two-year term.

Jeff has been a volunteer on the CAC board for several years and enjoys the fellowship, concern and involvement that keeps this group so engaged. For an on-the-go, active traveling yacht broker, the CPYB designation is a the universal standard of excellence.

The CPYB program is twenty years strong and remains the standard of professionalism. Jeff is joined on the CAC by fellow CYBA representatives, Nick Friedman, CPYB, Mik Maguire, CPYB along with Ty Mellott  executive director of the CYBA.

The number of active CPYB’s is steadily growing and the group set a target goal to have 400 CPYB’s by the end of 2023.  Sitting down with the leaders of the various associations allows for a productive exchange of ideas in our ever-evolving business.

Jeff sees the value of his CPYB credential daily and truly believes in the program.   He has created and presented continuing education seminars for fellow CPYB’s and has also led Zoom exam prep study sessions for apprentices.

It takes desire and dedication, but those who extend the effort to study for and pass the test will set out on a course to become more successful in their career as a yacht broker.

The CPYB calendar of e-seminars and test dates have been set for 2023.  If you would like more information please visit www.CPYB.net.
