Our second brokerage backstory is here! Listing broker, Larry Friedman, asked the owners of Misty Pearl several questions so that interested buyers can learn more about her features, qualities, and more. Questions and answers:
Q. What is your favorite feature of Misty Pearl?
A. There’s a lot to love, but the full walk-around deck is awesome when handling lines along docks or locks. Also, in rough patches of weather we’ve been quite happy with her solid mass. She’s made for blue water comfort, and it shows. Those features are hard to find in trawlers this size.
Q. What are your favorite cruising grounds?
A. We’ve cruised roughly 10,000 miles on the rivers and coast between the Florida Keys and the Gulf of St. Lawrence. Almost every mile was enjoyable, but the Canadian Maritime Provinces are tough to beat.

Q. Can you share a funny experience that happened onboard?
A. While in Muskogen, Michigan, we started listing to starboard. Everything was balanced, and the cause was a very concerning mystery. After hours of anguish, we realized that the Captain forgot to remove the dinghy plug, and the historic rain fall we experienced filled it up. Not so funny at the time.
Q. Describe your best day on Misty Pearl.
A. Too many great days to count but stopping at the mouth of the Saguenay Fjord is up there. We killed the engine and floated for about an hour with dozens of whales breaching all around the boat.

Q. How difficult is Misty Pearl to handle for a cruising couple?
A. Our prior boating experience consisted of ski boats and houseboats, so a 28-ton trawler was completely different. We found the Selene 43 to be about the perfect size, and although we never stop learning, after a week or two we felt moderately competent. We’ve now encountered just about every situation possible without any mishaps. With good communication any couple will find her to be an excellent boat to pilot and a comfortable home in which to live.
Q. You live in the Southwest, is there a reason that you chose to cruise the East Coast rather than the West Coast or the Gulf Coast?
A. For us, the Great Loop was our initial goal. After we finished the Loop, we just kept cruising. Our next planned adventure, however, is the Inside Passage to Alaska.
Brokers comments: Not only is Misty Pearl a beautiful and well equipped trawler, she is very easy to cruise. In particular I like the inside access to the flybridge from the pilothouse which is very rare in a boat this size. There is so much more to see. Please get in touch with me if you would like to learn more and/ or make an appointment to come aboard.
