Jeff Merrill became a member of the American Great Loop Cruiser’s Association back in 2014 when he founded JMYS. This association offers wonderful support and resources for people learning about the Great Loop – a continuous waterway journey that spans 6,000 miles throughout 15 states in eastern north America. JMYS believes in giving back to the power cruising community and supports many associations.
This “Great Loop” route is popular in the trawler community. It is an ambitious travel itinerary and those who complete the full loop are said to have “crossed their wake”. The trip can start anywhere along the route and is famous for the “limbo bridge” in Chicago that limits air draft clearance and the number of Canadian provinces and US states you visit. This requires a lot of planning and this is where the AGLCA thrives. You can do it continuously, or take a break and travel for weeks or months and then take a break.
The AGLCA’s mission is to assist boaters in all facets of their high-adventure, low-risk, long-distance journey around the Great Loop. The association has grown from a small group of “loopers” to over 6,000 memberships.
There are many benefits to becoming a member of the AGLCA and it doesn’t matter which phase of your loop journey you’re in!
